Sandra gave my grandma and I a wonderful tour of Salzburg and the places in The Sound of Music. I enjoyed the tour!

My wife and I plus our daughter (great Julie Andrews fan) and her husband took the SOM tour September 1, 2008. How lucky we felt to have Rosamaria as our tour guide! She injected personal stories, behind-the-scenes stories and gave us Salzburg ...
My husband and I were training around Germany recently and scheduled a day trip to Salzburg from Munich. I am a fan of the Sound of Music (most musicals for that matter) and heard about the S.O.M. Tour with Bob's Special Tours. We had waited until the last minute to book with the tour, so decided to call instead of book on line. It was a Wednesday and we were going to be in town on Thursday. I called about 6:30 pm and luckily someone answered. They had availability on the 2pm tour! I just needed to provide a credit card number to hold the reservation.
We arrived in Salzburg by train from Munich around 11am. We had time to walk around the city and have lunch before meeting for our tour. When we arrived at Bob's (on a main street near Mozartplatz), we showed the Rick Steves book for a 5.00 EUR discount
each. Everyone was asked to be there by 1:45pm, which we were, and were able to set off just before 2pm. There were five of us altogether with the tour guide. One of the best things about touring with Bob's is that they drive 9-passanger mini vans, which are able to zip around the countryside faster and hit locations that thelarger tour buses/coaches cannot.
We drove through the city for a bit of history and ifno about the SOM filming locations and extras - such as tobaggan chute, cafe overlooking Wolfgangsee, and the Lake District. Our tour guide, Kathi, was very friendly andknowledgeable about Salzburg and the surrounding area and of the SOM filming. We were not rushed for time at all and it was great beating the bigger tours to sites and loading/unloading effortlessly and quickly. Even though my husband was the only man on the tour, he had a great time as well. He enjoyed the history and views.
There is a bit of spoiler on the tour, though. As expected of Hollywood, the SOM film was not entirely true to story. Some of the locations were changed, names, storyline, etc. So, if you don't know this beforehand you may be disappointed by some of the truths revealed on this tour. However, I don't think it detracted from it all. It was great to see the beautiful countryside and hear about the filming some 40 years ago.
I highly recomment this tour and touring company. I am only sad that I could not return for some of the other tours offered
